Picture Perfect: Primary Photos
When you're scrolling through the site for potential dates, what's the first thing that catches your eye? It's easy: the photo. Just as you will judge in the first instance whether you think a person might be your type based on their picture, so others will do to you. In that case, you want to give yourself the best possible chance by having a cracking primary photo.
The success of a good primary has nothing to do with looks. You could have a mug like Beyonce and it would do you little good if you've taken a picture of yourself in a mirror with a window behind you. I've compiled the following tips to help you find that perfect picture.
1. Where am I?
Think about what's in the background of your picture and what it will say about you. Try to avoid bathrooms, bedrooms, offices and the day-to-day clutter of life. An outdoors shot works wonders, as it will be bright, but make sure that you're in some lovely countryside or on a beach and not next to the bins in a pub car park.
2. Let there be light!
This is absolutely key: bright and light shots are clicked on more than dull and dark ones. As mentioned above, outdoors is best for this, but a well-lit indoors shot is fine, just make sure a flash was used! Colour is important too, a vibrant background or colourful piece of clothing will work in your favour.
3. Candid camera
A candid shot of you taken by someone else is the best type of picture to use as it shows that you're an outgoing type with mates who like to take photos of you. If you happen to have some professional shots of you taken for work or some other reason handy then do consider them, but, in the online dating world, candid generally works best.
4. The long arm of the lonely
MSF attracts sociable people with friends, so some evidence that you have said friends will be helpful in securing you a date. A picture that you've obviously taken of yourself will not do you any favours, especially if you've taken it in the mirror or your own arm is looming large in the shot. If you haven't got a good picture of yourself then invite a mate round to do a photo shoot. Hopefully you'll have a laugh about it and get some good photos.
5. Smile!
Whilst you may have spent many an hour at the mirror deciding on your best side and perfecting your pout, this is not the place to display them. You're on mysinglefriend.com because you want people to approach you, so you need to look approachable! A friendly smile is going to get you a lot further than your best Blue Steel. People sometimes say that they don't like their smile, but, I guarantee you, others will.
