Spring dating tips

Spring BlossomYes, ladies and gentlemen, spring has officially sprung. March the 21st is traditionally claimed to be the first day of spring, or the vernal equinox if you want to be a hippie about it. In honour of the new season, here are a few spring dating tips.

1. Don't overestimate the temperature

Whilst it's tempting to throw off all your clothes and prostrate yourself on the nearest patch of grass at the teeniest sniff of warmer weather, remember that it's still blinkin' cold. You might find yourself swanning around the pub garden in nowt but a t-shirt and those lovely three-quarter-length linen trousers but the second the sun goes in you'll have lips to rival a smurf. Do what your mother told you and take a coat.

2. Do something under glass

OK, bear with us on this one, we don't mean a cup of tea in your greenhouse (though that has potential for the green fingered amongst you). We're thinking a pub, cafe or restaurant with a conservatory or lovely big windows. You can admire the spring scenery, whilst warming gently like a ripening tomato.

3. Say it with flowers

Daffodils, tulips, crocus, sweet peas, hyacinths. The world is abundent with beautiful flowers in the spring time. Take your date a bunch (ladies, you can give blokes flowers too, you know) or take your date to your local park for a stroll and enjoy them in the wild (the flowers, we mean). If you're feeling really gung-ho about spring you could even recite a poem. Altogether now: 'I wandered lonely as a cloud...'.

4. The days get longer

Yep, the clocks go forward on Sunday. Even if it takes a bit longer for the weather to warm up, an extra hour of daylight makes a big difference. If you're planning a date, use that extra hour to do something outdoorsy, even if it's just a coffee outside a cafe as the sun goes down, and then move onto something indoors after (if it's good coffee, have another one inside).

5. It's not winter!!!

Your spirits will be lifted by the (slight) warmth, the flowers and the lighter evening. This is what is technically known as The Joys of Spring. As you may or may not know, happiness is contagious, so if you approach your date with a big smile and a light heart, that's how they'll feel by the end of the night.
