Top 5 driving dates

This weekend is 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race that pretty much does what it says on the tin. Three drivers per car, two hours driving at a time for 24 hours. This got us to thinking about great dates for the speed freaks and thrill seeking singles amongst you and we've come up with this list.

1. Go karting

We mentioned Go Karting in our retro dates post but it deserves further mention because it's so blinkin' fun. You probably won't manage to put in the requisite Le Mans 24 hours (30 minutes to an hour is more the thing) but you will get that adrenaline kick and work up a little bit of friendly rivalry which can go a long way when you've just started dating.

2. Drag racing

One quarter of a mile track, two nitro methane fuelled cars and 0-100mph in 1 second; they don't call it the loudest and fastest motorsport on earth for nothing. Whilst America introduced drag racing to the world, the UK has two world class drag strips: Santa Pod in Northamptonshire and Shakespeare County Raceway near Stratford-Upon-Avon. Buy your date a dodgy burger and a pint of warm lager and feast your eyes on the spectacle.

3. Driving experience

The pinnacle of driving dates. Who doesn't want to do 5 laps of Brands Hatch at top speed in an Aston Martin? No one, that's who. It's a date that will lean fairly heavily on your wallet and probably not one for the first time you meet, but you're guaranteed some big thrills (and hopefully no spills).

4. Quad biking

When you join a dating site you probably imagine yourself going out all glammed up and sipping something sophisticated in a classy bar, not speeding through muddy puddles plastered in dirt, but, let's be honest, which is going to be more fun? For us, the latter wins hands down and it's probably going to cost about the same amount of money. Quad biking is a popular past time and you'll easily find a venue near your area.

5. Scalextric

A slightly less gung-ho driving date but no less fun for it. You can be indoors, you don't have to get dirty and you can have a nice cup of tea at the same time. The only problem is finding a big enough space to set up your track.
