Top 5 famous film location dates

We know that mysinglefriend.com is awash with film fans so this week we're treating you to our top 5 film location dates. It's a great idea for a first date; an excellent starting topic of conversation and an easy segue into a lengthy, geeky discussion of your favourites. We're starting with a golden oldie...

1. The Brief Encounter Refreshment Room

Brief Encounter is one of those classic British wartime romances, full of cups of tea and bizarre closed-mouth kissing. It was filmed in 1945 in Carnforth Station, Lancashire, but the station fell into disrepair in the 1960's. It has been restored and turned into the Carnforth Station and Visitors Centre, complete with the Brief Encounter Refreshment Room, which has been restored to its 1940'sglory and offers food, a licensed bar and a jazz band every two weeks. So stiffen that upper lip, repress those feelings and, um, have a jolly good time.

2. Quadrophenia pie 'n 'mash shop

Cooke's in Shepherds Bush has been selling pie. mash and eels for well over a hundred years and was immortalised in Quadrophenia as the place Jimmy went to meet his mate Kevin for a nice plate of grub. It's still going strong, boasts an authentically retro vibe inside and out and a cheap and delicious plate of food.

3. Trainspotting: Cafe D'Jaconelli

Glasgow's Cafe D'Jaconelli was the place that Spud and Renton shared a milkshake before giving the worst interviews in the world. It's a tradition Scottish/Italian cafe, with a good line in big breakfasts and delicious ice cream.

4. Withnail and I: The King Henry

The King Henry in Penrith, the village the hapless pair went on holiday by mistake, doesn't actually exist; the pub used was the Crown in the Buckinghamshire town of Stony Stratford. The pub is perfect for a date, it serves food, your usual range of drink and isn't averse to Withnail and I fans turning up and asking for quadruple whiskies. The town also boasts the location of the teashop where Withnail asked for the finest wines known to humanity, but it's now a chemist. The finest decongestant nasal spray, anyone?

5. Harry Potter's school corridor

Pretty much guaranteed to be more exciting than any school corridor you walked down as a kid, the corridor scenes of Hogwarts were filmed in the cloisters of Gloucester cathedral. A perfect place for a day time date: loads to see, a cafe for a nice cup of tea and plenty of opportunity to run up and down waving sticks around and shouting made up spell names.
