Girl Meets Boys: author interview

Online dating book Girl Meets BoysLike most things in life, online dating has it's ups and downs. It can take many a bad date, the future of which is only ever going to be as a comedy anecdote for your mates, before you strike dating gold. One intrepid love seeker, Louise Gibney, has turned her experiences in the online dating trenches into a book called Girl Meets Boys. She describes the book as 'an embarrassing and hilarious journey through the perils of online dating, which gives the reader an unpredictably entertaining and cringe-worthy insight into a young woman's online search for a boyfriend. No detail is left unspoken in this narrative non-fiction piece, the dates are 100% genuine, and is sure to make the reader laugh'. We caught up with Louise to ask a few questions about the book.

What thoughts did you have about online dating before you tried it?

Two of my friends had previously married people they'd met online, so I knew it works for some people. I wanted to meet new people in town too, as I'd moved to this area not knowing a lot of people nearby. I figured in the worst case scenario, I'd make some friends, and I always like meeting new people.

What thoughts do you have now?

I wouldn't warn people off using online dating websites in general, but I would have some suggestions to make things safer and more successful. I would definitely recommend that you try to ask to see a few photos to get a real idea of what the person looks like and they are what they say they are.  If you can narrow the search down to things you're after (e.g. a certain height, salary, education, colour of hair) it will set you up much better for a successful search. Also, it goes without saying, always be careful. Make sure you tell someone where you'll be and what time you'll be back, and don't ever tell a date where you live until you're sure you'd like to see them again - I waited at least 3 dates to divulge that info!

Can you give us a couple of anecdotes about your dating experiences?

There are so many good stories to choose from! The top two I am getting the best reaction from through my readers are the stories of the illegal immigrant who ditched me at the airport, and the date with the case of mistaken identity. There was a pretender on the scene and I almost walked off with the wrong bloke! Then there was the date who brought his family along for our first meeting, someone who rang to borrow £20 before he took me out on our first date ... the list goes on! It certainly makes for an entertaining read.

Did you finally meet Mr Right?

I can't tell you that! You need to read the book to find out if and how the story ends!

If you're interested to know how the story ends you can pick up a copy of Girl Meets Boys from Amazon or www.lulu.com. Many thanks to Louise for taking the time to talk to us and good luck with the book!
