Pancake Date!

Ah, the humble pancake. Who would think that simply by combining together some fairly bog standard ingredients (flour, eggs, milk and water   - Delia can assist if you need a pancake recipe) you could create a culinary masterpiece? However, if you're off on a date tonight you might not have the opportunity to make your own so we've found some places you can go for a Pancake Date.

1. Your local Chinese restaurant

Though pancakes traditionally tend to be covered in at least an inch of sugar, you can go down the savoury route with a trip to a Chinese restaurant and ordering the crispy duck, pancakes and plum sauce. This is a good one for a first date because, as well as being deliciously tasty, putting them together will give you something to concentrate on apart from each other, thus relieving that first date pressure.

2. Afters, London

Afters is the eating experience you've longed for all your life - a restaurant dedicated to dessert. You literally can't get anything else! It's heaven for those with a sweet tooth and a lot of fun for an early date. They will be dishing up pancakes and crepes today with various sweet fillings and toppings, so say a prayer for your tooth enamel and get down there.

3. Korean Pajeon

Another savoury idea, and utterly delicious, is to order the pajeon at your local Korean restaurant. It's essentially a pancake with lots of lovely things cooked into the batter and served with soy sauce and rice vinegar for dipping. Our favourite is the seafood pancake, but there are loads of varieties.

                                Looking for a pancake date?

4. My Old Dutch, London

If you want a dedicated pancake place, and no messing, then you could take your date to My Old Dutch. They've got an extensive menu of both savoury and sweet pancakes, plus the opportunity to choose your own fillings, so if an anchovy, spinach and apple pancake is what you desire, then that is what you may have. If you're a bit pancaked out, however, they've got some other lovely Dutch food too.

5. Crepes

If you like your pancakes a bit bigger,a bit thinner and a little bit French, then what you like is a crepe. There are loads of creperies dotted about the country, serving sweet and savoury loveliness all wrapped up in Continental style. Our recommendation is the Crepe Suzette: caramelized sugar and butter, orange juice, zest and a bit of Grand Marnier. Flippin' delicious.
