Judging a book by its cover

Tuesday, 8 April 2008

As you browse through search results there are probably a lot of profiles that you pass by without clicking on, solely on the basis of the picture.

Perhaps someone doesn't look like the type you'd normally go for, perhaps they don't live up to how you imagine your perfect match to look or perhaps you just don't like the picture. It might feel safer to stick to what you know but if you're looking for a diverse range of dates and the chance to meet people you wouldn't normally then it's worth stepping outside your comfort zone.

Whilst a primary image may not appeal, you might find that someone's secondary images do, or you might read the profile and find that the cut of their jib changes the way that you see their photos.

Take, for example, Ricky Gervais.

He's funny, talented and extremely successful but not what you might call classically good looking. If you'd never heard of him and you saw a picture of him on MSF would you click on it?

If the answer is yes, well done you, what a catch! If the answer is no then you've just lost out on what we imagine might be a hilarious and memorable date.

So what we're saying is, open your mind a bit. Beneath all those passed by pics might be an absolute gem.

PS. Ricky Gervais isn't actually on the site. Sorry everyone.
