First time lucky
The lovely Caroline got in touch this week to let us know about her upcoming wedding. She's marrying the equally lovely Mike whom she met on mysinglefriend.com in June 2008.
"I was a little nervous about online dating and expected to gather a few funny stories of dodgy dates to share with my friends but, in fact, Mike was the very first (and only!) person I met," Caroline told us. "It was like I won the lottery. Mike had been an MSF member on and off for - ahem - around three years. So it only goes to show that everyone has different experiences but the results are still just as good! I've recommended the site to loads of my friends since we met - it's so laidback, fun and full of excellent flirting.
My friend Kerry suggested adding me to the site as a birthday present and I thought 'Why not?'. I was a bit worried her description made me sound like a fifteen year old boy; she described my love of Will Ferrell movies, playing poker and being a bit of a demon on Mario Kart but it gave me lots to talk about. Mike was added by his very funny mate Sam who described his profession as retired pole dancer! Oddly this didn't put me off, but intrigued me to find out more!
Our first date was at a bar in Shoreditch on a Sunday afternoon. We didn't realise how long we'd been talking until the staff started putting chairs on tables. I missed my last tube but went away to the bus stop practically walking on air. We'd laughed, talked and shared so many stories that I felt like I'd known Mike for years. Actually, I could almost have met him years ago - we grew up about 20 minutes away from each other, lived in the same area of London in our twenties and even share a birthday! I had to pinch myself as it was too good to be true.
There was definitely some serious chemistry going on when we first saw each other but we also share the same (quite juvenile) sense of humour, the same huge appetite for cooking and eating and can both recite the movie Anchorman from start to finish. Mike is the kind of person who makes you feel the most interesting, clever, gorgeous, fun person in the room. His smile and his deep brown eyes just sweeten the deal.
We're getting married in September this year near our family homes in Bucks and are planning a very homemade afternoon tea themed reception in a village hall. There will be quite a lot of bunting and Mike is pretty keen on seeing all his mates in tweed for some reason. Mike's mum is a professional wedding dress maker so I am massively lucky to have a bespoke dress for the big day. Lots of friends and family are helping out - we couldn't manage without them."
