Five dating profile hacks that will get you noticed

When it comes to online dating, just getting a basic profile and a couple of pictures up online won't cut the mustard. Online dating is huge and people who are looking for a date are spoilt for choice, so you have to make sure that your profile stands out from the crowd or you'll find yourself being passed over again and again. Here are five simple hacks that will give your profile a big boost.

Be a bit weird

Or perhaps we should just say, be yourself. People are so keen to rub off their odd corners that there are loads of dating profiles out there that are so similar that they might as well belong to the same person, so if you want to get noticed, you have to stop being afraid of being different. Mention all the unique and unusual things about yourself and people will be intrigued and get in touch.

Use a selection of pictures

In the age of Facebook, we've all got plenty of pictures of ourselves to choose from, so make sure you have a few different ones, rather than that favourite head shot of yourself that was taken four years ago and you can't quite let go of. A couple of close ups are a good idea, but also include full body shots and some fun ones that show off your personality as much as your looks. And don't forget to smile!

Bad spelling is a big turn off

Whilst a little bit of text speak is no bad thing, don't use it on your dating profile or in your messages as it is a massive turn off. Be sure to check your spelling too, as potential dates are less likely to reply if you don't know 'your' from 'you're'.

Use positive language

The more upbeat your profile is, the more likely you are to get a date. Research has found that profiles including words like 'creative', 'confident', 'laugh' and 'healthy' are much more likely to get responses. However, you have to make sure you're using the right kind of positive language, as bigging yourself up by using words like 'hot' or 'sexy' will actually turn people off.

Keep things fresh

Your dating profile hasn't been carved in stone: you can change it at any time. If you aren't getting the kind of attention you'd like to, keep tinkering until you do. Changing your pictures and description on a regular basis will mean that people who might have skipped over you the first time round might see something that captures their attention the next time you appear in their searches.
