Top 5 Christmas Dating Ideas
Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat and so, too, are the dating opportunities. The winter months aren't always conducive to dating fun as the cold weather and gloomy evenings can make staying at home tucked up on the sofa a much more appealing prospect, but Christmas shines like a beacon in the darkness, offering lots of exciting stuff to see and do. We've out together our top 5 festive dates to get you into the seasonal spirit.
1. Ice skating
It's true that you can ice skate all year round, but ice skating at Christmas is a little bit more magical. There are loads of temporary outdoor skating rinks, all festooned with beautiful lights and pumping out all the best Christmas songs (possibly a contradiction in terms...). We like ice skating as a date anyway as it provides plenty of opportunity for hand-holding, enabling you to check out if the chemistry between you in fizzing.
2. Christmas lights
Whilst any town will have a few Christmas lights, a trip to the bigger cities will provide you with a true spectacle. It's a bit late in the month now for any grand switching on ceremonies, but that doesn't mean that a stroll through the lights, perhaps after a slap up dinner, isn't a nice thing to do. If you fancy something a bit different, and you're local to the area, you could try Westonbirt Arboretum's Enchanted Christmas, a magical illuminated trail through some beautiful trees - a truly special date.
So, this date is pretty weather dependent, but so are a lot of dates, even in the summer. If you do find that we get a healthy dusting of snow then this a fantastically spontaneous and exciting date, with lots of opportunity for snuggling up on a sledge together. Finish the date off with a trip to the pub to sip hot toddies by a roaring fire. Perfection.
4. Christmas films
When we say Christmas films we are certainly not talking about Love Actually or any other similarly schlocky dross, no, we're thing of the classy old ones like It's A Wonderful Life or Miracle on 34th Street. Lots of cinemas will show at least a couple of seasonal films but in larger cities you'll probably find a run of goodies, London especially is looking good with the BFI showing The Muppet Christmas Carol and Meet Me in St Louis amongst other. Even if you aren't near a big city, your local picture house will be showing Arthur Christmas, the latest from Aardman Animations, which has been well reviewed.
5. Carol concerts
Sounds kind of left field for a date, but bear with us. Even if you aren't religious, carol concerts posses a real sense of magic and are bound to get you in to the Christmas spirit, even if nothing else does. It'll be a truly unique and memorable date and you can follow it up with a spot of dinner or a couple of drinks to make an evening out of it. Doing an activity like this can be a real boon on a first date as it gives you something to concentrate on apart from each other, thereby easing the pressure, and gives you something to talk about afterwards. Plus, you already know the words and the tunes!
Happy Christmas dating to all!
