Well, I suppose I believe in grabbing life’s opportunities as they pass by, and – by chance – I’ve had some pretty nice opportunities float past me over the years! Through no skill or intention of my own, I’ve found myself singing with my favourite band, driving a team of huskies, being published in a philosophy journal, chatting to an astronaut, appearing (sort of) in a Danny Boyle film, dancing for royalty, working as a forklift driver, standing in a cooling tower, skydiving over a glacier, mustering cattle in the outback, winning a burlesque competition, and getting billed above Michael McIntyre (Michael who?!?).
Looking at the list in black and white, though, I realise that I did all of that without someone special by my side. So here I am, staring down the barrel of the big 5-0, finally admitting that I’m missing out on all the hoo-haa and it’s time to put self-sufficiency aside and do something about it!
