If John was summed up to be a dog, his breed would be rather unique (and undoubtedly a Crufts winner and not a Heinz 57 stray!). Having known John for many years I would enter him in the Labrador category. Not for his love of slippers, over eating or drooling (although I'm sure he's probably tried and tested some of these), but his values include being loyal, lovable, great company, happy with life, calm and quiet nature and appreciating the good things in life.

Don't let the quieter values put you off here as he's a top bloke, very svelte, well travelled and can soon sniff out a harbour bar in the Cote D'Azur or a Steak restaurant in Sao Paulo. Being a pedigree, John is fit, healthy, loves country walks and the hours pass so easily in his company. In dog terms I would have him down as a decent ball catcher, selective sniffer, deadly reliable off the leash and a mutt who walks away when they've had enough (no barks, scraps or tantrums here).

He's used to barking mad folk (like me) and just takes it all calmly in his stride with dry humour, wit and a chilled out nature. If I came across him in the park, yes I would have to wander over with my drooly eyes and fur coat and finally as a Crufts Judge... he would definitely be a winner!
