Lucy and I have been friends since University, when we bonded over a shared love of Northern Soul, crap telly and daytime drinking. In the years since then, she's become one of the most important people in my life, simply because she provides an endlessly caring nature and an enormous capacity for making me laugh.

Unfortunately I have to share her with a large number of other people, because Lucy is the sort of person who is incredibly important to all her friends. She is the life and soul of the party, the top of my speed dial list, the person you text during a pub quiz, and so on. As you can see from her pictures, Lucy has a huge smile and the best thing about it is it's genuine.

That's the schmaltzy bit done. Describing Lucy's personality is a bit more of a challenge, because it's pretty unique (in a good way). I think you have to start with the silliness, which stems from her lifetime love of Viz, the Goonies and a wide array of random moments from 80's and 90's popular culture.

Then there's the music - she loves playing it, talking about it, listening to it, dancing to it. I can't do justice to everything she's into, but it starts with the Beatles, takes in a bit of Led Zep and Bowie, not to mention Fleetwood Mac, Diana Ross and the Supremes, and so on.

Like most people on here, Lucy likes hanging out with her friends in pubs, country walks and roast dinners. And she's by far one of the best people I know to do this stuff with - rarely a dull moment, I think is the expression!
