About him
Well I reckon the simplest way into this is to describe the perfect Sunday and we can take it from there: early morning spent in bed with toast and the papers, then a long cross-country walk with the dog (whatever the weather!) before returning home to light the fire and get the roast on. Then a lazy afternoon stroll to enjoy the last of the day before an evening on the sofa discussing how Sunday evenings just aren't the same without Jim Bowen and Bullseye.
I spent most of my formative years in the 80s watching movies that seemed to suggest nice guys always got the great girls in the end if they just hung in there, were friendly and supportive, and everything always worked out splendidly as the credits rolled. Well the last 40 years have suggested that's not necessarily the case, but at least I now know what I'm looking for.
I've had all manner of careers in the past that have included such delights as the Music Industry, West End Musicals, Electronics Manufacturing, Audio Engineering and finally now IT. I like to think of myself as disproving the theory that all computer geeks are incapable of reasonable conversation or social interaction, although I do admit to preferring to stay in with one person I like than go out with loads I just "know".
I have an all-year-round IT programmer's tan which is not unlike Dulux's "Pimento White". I wear Joe 90 glasses too, although that's where the comparison ends - I'm more like his geeky Uncle... . My degree was in French Literature... very handy in IT as you can imagine, but at least it means I can converse on topics beyond Hard Disk drives, intriguing as those are.
Current sports include running in the woods with the dog on a lead (attempting not to wrap each other around trees at high speed), a recently-rediscovered interest in tennis, and quite a lot of clay-pigeon shooting... although I accept that last one is about as much of a sport as darts... .

I'd love to say that it's "all about the chemistry", but even chemistry needs a little help on occasion, so here goes...:
I'd like to meet a funny, kind, intelligent girl who agrees that society's going to hell in a handbasket and that life was better before Waitrose installed hot drinks dispensers.
I'm looking for someone who knows where an apostrophe lives in a sentence, can flip between sophisticated and a bit mucky as the situation demands, could help round up our kids into the Volvo in under 30 seconds after a long field walk, enjoys winter evenings with red wine and log fires, knows her Proust from her Prost, and understands the difference between spontaneity and disorganisation.
Would be helpful if you owned a tennis or badminton racquet and knew how to use them, or at least how to miss with panache.
After many years of thinking I had a long list of must-have requirements in what I'm looking for, actually I'm increasingly believing that ultimately it all boils down to one thing... do I really "listen" when we're chatting or am I just making conversation? If that's there, then the rest is easy, so a good conversationalist is a must.
Oh, and bitter experience has led me to add that if your profile contains the expression "work hard, play hard", contains photos of you jumping in the air, abbreviates University to "Uni" or references "Machu Picchu" in any context then it's just not going to work...

I'd like to say the old cliche about not knowing why David's single, but the truth is I DO know why he's single... and it's just that he hasn't found the right girl yet and he's not one to mess a girl around.
Under the straight laced exterior there's a kind generous, funny soul who's the first person to help when there's a problem and the last one to leave if there's work to be done. you'll get what you see with David, and he's not a game-player... but you'll certainly need your banter and he likes a bright spark so good chatters and curious souls will always do well with him. he's old fashioned in a good way and a still has a quite charming streak that seems to be missing from a lot of guys these days.
I'm making him sound like a puppy that needs rehoming so I'll add into the mix that whilst he's a reliable sort he's no saint and he still has the ability to often surprise me in a pub garden over a glass of wine or two. there's also a fair amount of 80s music that you'll need to endure, but he's worth it.
Spend an date or two with him and I think you'll be pleased you did. I found a great friend but if you're lucky you'll find a lot more and won't regret it.
