About him
USA-born, I grew up on a farm and began at a one-room schoolhouse. After private school, I spent a year at King's, Canterbury, Kent, where I gained the Royal Schools Grade VIII in Music Theory. Then Yale, quite anglophile. I admired English, so took a double honors degree in it (the other, B.S. in Biology). After serving as a university cardiology faculty and then 20 years of private practice, I went part-time to meet multiple family needs (but no grandchildren), also letting me prioritize finding a partner. We moved to a smaller city for me to remain independent professionally, and for a simpler life.
Based on my understanding of human nature, I’m a conservative, which for me is compatible with acceptance and an open mind. Values from my upbringing and church education have made me a functional Christian, even if I am not a church-goer.
Divorce, final in 2014, blindsided me in a faithful 25-year marriage. No extra- or post-marital affairs. My two sons and daughter live 1000 and 3000 miles away at their universities.
Patient care, many estate duties, friends, and hobbies vie for my time. I prefer dispassionately addressing problems according to their root causes, so am stereotyped as an academic scientist. However, I’m a romantic, even if I recognize the practical. I’d like to try creative writing and would like to travel more, but have been awaiting a partner. The simple things in life please me. I am my own worst critic, but am comfortable with myself. Memories I treasure: appreciating my own great mentors, teaching my children about the world, thanks from patients or their families after victories and defeats, graduation notices from students and trainees I encouraged.

My standards were formed as a cross country captain, so I feel I am never fit enough. I’d like to resume ballroom and swing dancing, and admire pairs figure skating, ice-dancing.

In looking for my match, I would welcome complementary traits and aptitudes. Although it is conventional to seek shared backgrounds in the interests of a best fit, my many friends from all walks of life humble me with their great character and high function, so I possess no strict matching criteria.
We would enjoy moral agreement if we hewed to traditional values, including empathy for the human condition.
I am looking for a fit, honest, girl-next-door, who is accomplished as a human, yet easygoing, and forgiving. Someone genuine and communicative.

I would admire musicianship in you, but if you are advanced, please tolerate my ambitions to re-start piano, trombone, and trumpet. It would be a good fit if you felt comfortable at the firing range and at the opera, or if you at least excused my occasional participation in those activities.
