About him
Someone once described me as a younger version of Bill Nighy – unable to decide if it was a compliment or a put-down - but I hear Bill Nighy wasn’t impressed.
Competent in the kitchen, good and creative with my hands. Tactile, affectionate without being embarrassingly clingy or needy. I find people fascinating, animals beautiful and the natural world a poser of endless questions; perhaps if I looked a little more closely it would provide some answers to those questions.
You are more likely to find me sitting behind a piano than in front of a television, or in the garden fondling my gooseberries. I like parkruns, puffins, cats, cake and alliteration. I dislike the betting industry and relentless marketing trying to get in your head.
Running and exercise have kept me sane in and out of Lockdown, that and an obsession with parkrun. My dulcet Northern tones can recite poetry and issue filth in equal measure, as the occasion demands.
Having recently fulfilled my aim of an early retirement, I am using my time to carry out extensive house renovations as I pursue my ambition to become the next Tom Good.
Whilst I am tolerant and understanding, I won't put up with dishonesty, princesses, edgy tension or fisticuffs. No matter how difficult the truth, I would rather have that than a lie. Once out in the open, even the scariest of monsters can be seen for what it really is.
The photographs were taken between 2018 and February 2023 - the photograph with Mr Slobberchops is the most recent. My Mum's genes have been kind in later life but were unreasonably cruel in my teens when it mattered most. I have acquired more of that quiet confidence which comes with age and know that some silences are comfortable, passing hugs speak a thousand words, and an unasked-for cup of tea is the true indicator of love.
You may be curious as to why, after being single for so many years, I want to change things. The answer to that partly depends on you.

Is this the bit where you get to make unrealistic demands? Splendid, I'll get my list...
It isn't a long list and it isn't particularly unreasonable:
Someone who understands that a kind word unlocks happiness, has an appreciation of the natural world and is happy outdoors. Puffins and parkruns are an ongoing theme, so perhaps open to travel and adventures in campervans, tents and quirky hotels. Penguins are also good - who doesn't like a penguin?
I am not intimidated by independence – it is something I would encourage. It won’t stop me taking delight in your success, or comforting you in times of distress. I have yet to see cosmetics improve the natural beauty of any human face and I am more drawn to the timbre of voice than an elaborate coiffure. It isn’t that I am easily pleased, I just value authenticity in a landscape marred by marketing. A delicate equine scent is a far more heady aroma than perfume.
A successful weekend could include muddy fingernails, a parkrun somewhere beautiful, cups of tea, passing hugs, mutual tittering, comfortable silences, open fires, quiet reflection and meaningful conversations. Agreeing to disagree is fine – I am not from Yorkshire. On the subject of fires, I am hoping you are better at starting them than putting them out.
