The thing about Kate is she has this huge heart. If she sees a wounded bird, an old person looking slightly bewildered, or a stray un-recycled can just lying there abandoned on the street, she will not sleep that night until she does something about it. That can will somehow be recycled, you can bet your bottom dollar on it.. The other thing about her is she's incredibly brave. She is not afraid of taking risks. She has consistently made life choices (eg. Working in disaster zones, switching careers mid way through her life, moving to London) that many of us would just not dare to do. She follows her heart, and like I've already said, she's got a big heart to follow. She is a solid Christian and following Jesus is the most important thing to her, and she does it remarkably well. She is however, one of those terribly moral people who manage to maintain a rather wicked sense of humour. She appreciates comedy. She is the first person I call when I have a problem, she is loyal and she doesn't give up easily, particularly on other people. She bakes a good quiche, she drinks A LOT of tea, far more than anyone should. She has opinions on art, she reads the kind of books you find on BBC book lists. She can be a little bit shy, a little bit self-deprecating. She knows her neighbours, she likes dogs, she loves the north of England. She is kind, really kind. She likes to walk, she plays cards and she has travelled the world. She is good at listening and does not pretend to know it all. She has strong convictions, some of which she sticks to, (did I mention the can that needs re-cycling?) and some of which she allows herself a guilty little slip up occasionally, (Starbucks Chai Tea Late Kate? ) - which really just makes her all the sweeter. In the interests of fairness though, I must also tell you that she likes sci-fi far too much and will giggle quietly to herself at all the in-jokes all the way through a startrek movie should you ever watch one with her. Which you should.
