You know if you're going out with Wendy, it's going to be a good night. Everything will flow easily, you'll laugh, have good chats and end up staying up far too late.
She's probably the most popular person I know, with a string of good friends across the world (she's travelled a lot and lived in Hong Kong for a time in her 20s). Everyone has a Wendy story. People move on and lose touch as their circumstances change, but everyone always wants to stay in touch with her. If any old friends are in town from overseas, it's always Wendy they call first. She is much loved.
In many ways, Wendy is a girl of two halves. She's easy-going, but knows her own mind. She's fun and adventurous (she's lived overseas, run a marathon, cycled miles for charity) but is thoroughly dependable. You know if she says she'll do something, she'll do it and do it properly - no half-measures.
She likes quality but she's definitely not high-maintenance. For instance, she's a foodie (my go-to person for restaurant recommendations and is a great cook herself) but would rather have a plate of really good pasta in a family-run Italian, rather than go to the latest fashionable restaurant where it's more about style than food.
She's got a really good job and she's great at it, but it's not her life.
She's gorgeous, elegant and well-dressed, but without vanity - she cares more that her body is healthy and fit.
The thing about Wendy is that she's so popular, independent and self-contained in many ways, you might think 'where do I fit in?' Because she's not one to wear her heart on her sleeve, you need to see beyond her genial exterior. She's vulnerable within. Take good care of her. She's my hero and I love her to bits.
